A Noisy Story: AES75 in Progress – How to measure loudspeaker maximum sound levels using noise

*Lecture*

Merlijn van Veen, co-chair of the AES SC-04-03-A task group on max SPL measurement with noise, provides an update on standard AES75 for Acoustics – Measuring loudspeaker maximum linear sound levels using noise, and how it compares to prior methods for Maximum Loudspeaker SPL Measurement.

AES75 is an industry‑wide standard for measuring and comparing loudspeaker maximum acoustic output. The standard uses Music-Noise whose spectrum and frequency-dependent crest factor were engineered to emulate those characteristics of music.

Last year, the task group has created a dedicated AES75 web page to publicize and promote the standard and its adoption with interesting information.
